The MSU-IIT Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao (IPDM), led by Vice Chancellor Dr. Mark Anthony Torres, spearheaded a four-day workshop titled “Integrating Foresight into Reflective Peace Practice (RPP) as a Transformative and Evaluation Tool” from October 2–5, 2025, in Cagayan de Oro City. The event brought together faculty members, youth leaders from the MSU-IIT Youth Chain of Peace, Center for General Education (CGEM) Director Dr. Irish Mae F. Dalona, We Care Director Dr. Rosario L. Reserva, and Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs Dr. Nancy Q. Echavez to critically examine the delivery of peace education within MSU-IIT.

The workshop featured in-depth discussions on transforming èßäAVinto a National Peace University by rethinking peace education curricula and embedding peace-centered policies and structures. Participants emphasized leveraging MSU’s unique historical context to shape inclusive and justice-oriented education. Central to the conversations was the integration of the Transitional Justice (TJ) framework, focusing on truth-seeking mechanisms and conflict-sensitive storytelling as essential tools for healing and reconciliation.

Innovative flagship projects were also presented, including immersive historical learning in former conflict zones, the delivery of microcredential modules, and the development of community-based industries and technology-driven initiatives as part of MSU-IIT’s extension programs, each designed to promote community empowerment and sustainability in conflict-affected areas.

The workshop also focused on applying the RPP matrix to evaluate and guide peace initiatives. Participants highlighted the importance of duty-bearer engagement, transformative indicators, and community-based service-learning models. Strategic planning discussions underscored the need to align operational processes and categorize initiatives based on impact and uncertainty to enhance effectiveness and ensure long-term sustainability.

Through these conversations and collaborative planning, MSU-IIT reaffirmed its commitment to building a learning environment that not only advances peace and justice (SDG 16) but also strengthens institutions and expands equitable access to education (SDG 4) and livelihood opportunities (SDG 8).

The workshop concluded with a shared commitment to transform MSU-IIT into a hub for peacebuilding, one that preserves memory, fosters healing, and drives systemic change. As Vice Chancellor Nancy Echavez remarked, the collective effort aims not merely to create ripples but to generate “waves of meaningful change” within MSU-IIT and across Mindanao.
