The College of Education (CED) of the Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) earned national recognition after its student-teachers secured major awards in the 2025 World Council for Curriculum and Instruction–Philippine Student Teachers’ Network (WCCI–PSTN) Teachers’ Month National Competition, awarded on October 4, 2025.

Representing CED, the team led by Association of Student Teachers in Education (ASTE) President Christian Lachica and Vice President Arren Jean Jacalan earned two championship titles, one first runner-up, and one finalist recognition across four creative and instructional categories.

Showcasing the storytelling power of education, Jacalan, Lachica, and Faith Ybonne Calunod won the Lens of Legacy: Video Making Contest, while Lynch Danica Maano, Elmea Maris Cañaliso, Princess Ann Romero, Elisha Mae Oliveros, and Juanna Lee Ligad also won the IM Video Lesson Making Contest.

Joseph Miles Cabaluna and Jerham B. Acmad secured first runner-up in the Chalk to Canvas: Traditional Poster Making Contest, and Fily Rose Oñez, Mhe Anne Canama, Reyheart Salavaria, Princess Meth Saromines, and Cherry Mae Bayon-on were named finalists in the IM Gamified: Modern Gamified Instructional Material Making Competition.

Lachica shared that the team’s success entails CED’s ongoing pursuit of excellence in teacher education and its dedication to socially responsive instruction.

“This experience allowed us to use our voice and creativity as an instrument of advocacy, an advocacy for quality, inclusive, and compassionate education. That is the legacy we want to leave as future educators,” he said in an interview.

Moreover, the documentary entry also paid tribute to Ma’am Mary Grace Orot of Doña Matrona Actub Yañez Memorial School, whose story of resilience in the remote community of Bunawan, a far-flung area in Iligan City, inspired the team’s narrative on the legacy of educators.

The said annual national event convened teacher education institutions across the country to promote innovative practices in pedagogy, instructional outputs, and champion the values of creativity, empathy, and educational leadership.

On record, this marks CED’s second year of joining the competition.
