The Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) reached a new milestone as its delegation successfully participated in the UNLEASH Philippines Innovation Lab, part of the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Leaders in Innovation Fellowships (LIF) Launchpad program, held in Manila from September 19-25, 2025.
Leading the MSU-IIT delegation was Prof. Orven E. Llantos, PhD, together with student innovators Al-Gafar C. Mauna, Alwyn Jade Reuyan, Hannah A. Hontiveros, Jovie C. Macalolo-oy, and Wilson Augosto. The team joined over 150 Filipino changemakers in an intensive week-long innovation lab designed to develop solutions to pressing social and environmental challenges through design thinking and collaborative prototyping.
During the program, participants received mentorship from experts in technology, engineering, and business, and engaged with a diverse network of innovators across the country and abroad. The MSU-IIT team contributed their insights and shared their experiences in developing inclusive, community-driven solutions for the tracks of sustainable cities, health, and agriculture.
Fully funded by the UNLEASH grant, the event provided a platform for young innovators to transform ideas into sustainable prototypes. It also offered participants access to the Prototyping Program from January to April 2026, extending support in testing and refining solutions for real-world impact.
Reflecting on the experience, Prof. Llantos emphasized the importance of representing MSU-IIT on the national stage. “This opportunity allowed us not only to showcase MSU-IIT’s capacity for innovation but also to collaborate with like-minded individuals committed to building sustainable and inclusive communities,” he expressed.
The participation of MSU-IIT in UNLEASH Philippines highlights MSU-IIT’s growing role as a hub for innovation in Mindanao and its commitment to nurturing future leaders who will drive meaningful change in society.
