Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) warmly welcomed eight students and one faculty member from the Government Science Study Program of the Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Indonesia, as part of the International Student Mobility 2025 Program. The visit marks another milestone in the enduring academic partnership between MSU-IIT and UMY, held under the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) Academic and Cultural Immersion Program.
The delegation, led by Helen Dian Fridayani, S.IP., M.IP., Ph.D., will spend two weeks, from November 3 to 13, 2025, participating in academic and cultural activities hosted by CASS. The program aims to provide cross-border learning experiences that enhance global perspectives, academic capacity, and professional competencies among students.
During their stay, the students will attend classes on Filipino Culture, Human Rights & International Law, French Language, Ethics in Public Affairs, Social Psychology, Group Dynamics, General Psychology, and Comparative Politics. Dr. Helen will conduct a training entitled "Empowering Service Excellence through AI Training for Government Offices" for selected City Government employees. She will also give a training for selected MSU-IIT employees on Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence, and lastly, a lecture on AI tools for research to be attended by CASS students.

The delegation will also visit several government institutions in Mindanao and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Manila. To complement their academic exposure, they will experience the local culture through visits to notable sites such as Tinago Falls, Paseo de Santiago, Mimbalut Falls, and Iligan Night Market.
CASS Dean Dr. Marie Joy Banawa expressed her delight in welcoming UMY once again, emphasizing the depth and longevity of the partnership between the two institutions. “UMY has been one of our longest and most trusted partners. They are not just collaborators in academic mobility — they are family to us here at MSU-IIT,” Dr. Banawa shared. “This continued exchange reflects our shared commitment to shaping globally competent and socially responsible graduates. In the last two years, CASS has sent three batches of our own students to UMY, and it is always a joy to see this reciprocal exchange flourish.”
Meanwhile, CASS Department of Psychology Chairperson, Dr. Jennifer Carpio, shared her enthusiasm for hosting the delegation. “We are excited to welcome our friends from UMY. This engagement under the CASS Academic and Cultural Immersion Program serves as our mechanism to strengthen international inbound student and academic staff mobility,” Dr. Carpio stated.

The eight selected UMY students represent different academic cohorts: Luhhitta Trisna A Mustika (2022), Bayu Anugrah (2022), Caesar Rian Arifin (2023), Monica Resty Patria (2024), Clarinta Ratu Andriya ‘Inayah (2024), Alya Fitri Aulia (2024), Mohammad Fildan Yusuf (2025), and Aymannugra Aulia Swarto (2025). Their participation highlights UMY’s commitment to nurturing globally minded students grounded in strong national and Islamic values.
As MSU-IIT and UMY continue to strengthen their academic linkages, both institutions reaffirm their shared mission to advance international education, research collaboration, and cross-cultural understanding. The 2025 immersion program stands as a testament to their sustained partnership that continues to bridge communities, ideas, and cultures between Indonesia and the Philippines.
